Review of I'm Not There (2007) by Dave M — 11 Feb 2013
Nonsensical. Maybe after being happily confused after Southland Tales and No Country for Old Men I just wanted to sit back and watcha good ol' music biopic. What I got was six different movies rolled into one that intercut between each other leaving the viewer completely disconnected and numb.
I don't know what the fuck it was trying to say, nor did I care. Visually, it was interesting and had that good college film experimental quality. Performances were generally all good with the standouts being Cate Blanchett and Heath Ledger.
The funny thing about the movie is that it totally feels like Bob Dylan; like he was standing behind the camera the whole friggin time, his hair as wild as ever sayin, "yeah yeah thats somethin I'd do yeah.
" Did I mention the brutal run time? Well a movie that is completely nonsensical can still leave an impact after maybe ninety minutes, but at almost two and a half fucking hours you'll wish you were the watermelon in a Gallagher act.
"You're still stuck in the sixties Dylan, just like Gallagher. Please for the love of God splatter me all over the audience.".
