Review of I'm Here (2013) by Irem C — 30 Nov 2010
Well, I just watched Spike Jonze's short movie I'm here. It barely has a script but has a nice little idea behind it.
Visually, the lensing is quite balmy, especially any moments of lens-flared love and also it's quite nice to see how much is transmitted through the animated eyes of its characters. Its also incredible how simple elements like the ache in Andrew Garfield's voice carries so much emotion.
About the subject; yes Love, caring, sacrifacing bla bla all kinds of heart-warming feelings but that amount of sacrifice its noooot healty. Especially if you're the one always giving more than you are getting. It was a pretty dysfunctional relationship. So that's why at the end I hated Francesca. And thought Sheldon was an naiv, helpless idiot. Nontheless as u can see it made me think about it,think about the idea behind it. For such a simple script that is an achivement.
So my personal thoughts about love aside, generally I liked the movie. But it wasn't very upliftig for me if Spike Jonze was aiming for that. But if he was aiming for "don't be an idiot, you shouldn't be ridiculously sacrificing know where to draw the line" than he was right on point.
And has a fantastic soundtrack btw.
