Review of I'm Here (2013) by Jamie F — 04 Mar 2011
I've made this comparison before for a movie, but I will again in this one: I'm Here reminded me so much of Silverstein's The Giving Tree. It talks about loneliness, and how we can give everything we have to someone who takes that loneliness away - just like the Tree, is Sheldon in this movie "less" when he gives away, or is he enriched by having been able to give to the one he loves?
Jonze is a clever man, there is no doubt about that. He created very genuine, relate-able and interesting characters - and even if they are robots, they're not those cold-faced cyborgs other movies have shown. The robots in this movie act very humanly.
Despite the fact that it may not be an original story, there is a message and the message is loud and clear. Very emotional short film indeed.
