There are enough hints in the heroine's backstory - a grandmother with schizophrenia, for example - to suggest a psychological cast study, but they're offset by a tendency to see mental illnesses as funny character quirks or springboards for wacky fantasy sequences, rather than socially debilitating, potentially life-threatening challenges.
.. Park's earlier film depicted their own kinds of bedlam, but there was a sense there that at least one person behind the camera was in complete control of their mental faculties; here, I'm afraid to say, it's a case of the inmates being left to take over the asylum.
