Review of I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (2006) by Paul R — 07 Jul 2012
You have probably heard of Park Chan-Wook - he's the amazing Korean writer / director responsible for great films such as: Oldboy and the other films in his Vengeance Trilogy and more recently his excellent and underrated Vampire film: Thirst.
In 2006 he released I'm a Cyborg, But that's OK. It's the story of a young woman who thinks she is a Cyborg. After she harms herself (great opening scene of her attempting to recharge herself) she is sent to a mental institution.
She refuses to eat as Cyborgs do not require food and is befriended by another inmate who makes it his own personal mission to get her to eat. It follows their growing relationship. The film is super stylish, intriguing and amazingly colourful with some great effects to boot.
Admittedly not Chan-Wook's finest film but it's certainly a class act and more than good enough get a well deserved 4 stars. If you like Korean cinema - Then this is a film not to be missed.
