Review of I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) by Drew H — 26 Apr 2008
Happened to catch this on one of the Showtime channels around 2am this morning. I don't understand how you can have a third movie with completely different characters (in Colorado, no less) because it negates the backstory of the killer.
The first two films centered on the revenge theme whereas this one makes the fisherman out to be a mythic killer who is summoned when you and your friends vow to keep a deadly secret. So, basically they've turned Ben Willis into Candyman when he was already Michael Myers.
Also, for the first half of the movie they totally rip off the original as far as the action goes. They do try to tie in the film's predecessors with a short conversation accompanied by newspaper clippings.
The problem here is the news doesn't stay true to the actual body count (I mean, did they even pay attention to the first two movies?!). I'm still confused as to how you can really kill THIS version of the fisherman.
Sadly, there could be a fourth film on the way... and I'll probably watch it, but only if I accidentally find it on Showtime.
