Review of Il Divo (2008) by Enrico P — 08 Mar 2009
Such a shame this movie is a missed opportunity. Andreotti was arguably the most powerful Italian post war politician and yet the movie, while seeking to discredit him on his countless links to murders and mafia completely ignores how ineffective and useless a politician and what poor use he made of the power he accumulated.
With the excuse of keeping comunism at bay, Andreotti has presided over decades of deteriorating political life, cronyism and loss of state authority the product of which Italians and paying for today.
Sorrentino's shooting is also outright pretentious and his characters over caricatured. He completely misses the point. The spectator is none the wiser.
