Review of Il Divo (2008) by Damion R — 05 Jan 2010
The story of one of Italy's best-known politicians, Guilio Andreotti, whose integrity has been questioned by his possible links to the mob, "Il Divo" is an interesting history lesson that sadly feels just like that...a history lesson.
Admittedly, the film was hard to follow for the reason of numerous characters, dozens of names, the completely incongruent jumps in time, and all this in Italian, lending the need for subtitles.
As interesting as this historical figure's story seems, I had a really hard time piecing all the information together to truly know what was going on. After having Googled Guilio Andreotti after the fact, things made way more sense, making this film slightly better than I originally thought. However, it was difficult at times to keep my interest with so much information scrolling across the screen while so much happened visually, it was a slightly tedious venture. It probably deserves more than two stars, but as I didn't find it highly entertaining, despite being very well done, I couldn't offer up more than that.
