Review of Ikiru (1952) by Bomb C — 09 Nov 2007
I remember first watching this movie when I was fourteen. Then my brother bought it for me for my 21st birthday. The film takes place in Post-War Tokyo. Kurosawa depicts Watanabe as a mechanical, hard-working citizen who comes to find out he may only have a short amount of time to live--due to stomach cancer.
Although his life seems boringly mundane, Kurosawa uncovers the compassion of Watanabe, where he ultimately impacts all of those around him in such a positive manner. You learn what Watanabe thinks about life, through his expressions and interactions after the bad news.
..Wonderfully directed.
