Review of Ikiru (1952) by Clare N — 09 Nov 2007
An incredibly moving film about one man who, upon finding out he is terminally ill, realises that his life as a bureaucrat has been devoid of meaning. He spends his last months trying to have a playground erected for children in the ghetto to give meaning to a life otherwise misspent.
The final scene in the playground is incredibly moving and cinematically stunning. A masterpiece by the wonderful and highly influential Akira Kurasawa.
