Review of Ikiru (1952) by Maxwell S — 27 Jul 2012
Rarely does a saddening film achieve this level of greatness, however Kurosawa is the greatest director in cinema history, not necessarily my favorite, though he is among them. Akira Kurosawa makes me sad just thinking about him.
He was just a tall, quiet guy who sat around watching movies, eventually trying to kill himself. But, he still is the greatest mind in cinema. MANY films owe him A LOT. Emotions are vividly present throughout the entire film.
It leaves your heart in the same place for the length of the film. Just as much irony is used as emotions, mainly in the final part. Just like many Kurosawa films, the cinematography makes an already masterful film, even better.
An essential for everyone.
