Review of Igby Goes Down (2002) by Dave R — 14 Jan 2010
A coming of age story that tries to be too clever I think. the story is essentially about a young man who has a lot of misplaced hostility towards his mother and only realizes it when she makes a deathbed confession.
from a socio-economic perspective it's a poor-little-rich-boy story really. only children of the upper classes could have these existential crises as they drift about in manhattan lofts and beach houses in the hamptons as they pretentiously name drop and reference poets and psycho-babble.
