Review of Igby Goes Down (2002) by Manny C — 13 Sep 2010
Not a movie Hollywood would churn out, Igby Goes Down is one of the closest examples of Salinger-esque storytelling we've ever seen on screen. Kieran Culkin is spectacular as Igby, a teen grappling with life and its meaning and worth.
He's helped by a stellar supporting cast of talents like Jeff Goldblum, Ryan Phillippe, Bill Pullman, Amanda Peet, Jared Harris and Susan Sarandon. Best of all though is Claire Danes as his on again off again lover.
Small, character driven storytelling doesn't get much better than Igby Goes Down.
