Review of If I Should Fall from Grace: The Shane MacGowan Story (2001) by Simon M — 28 Aug 2007
Back in my high school days, there were loads of chicks who were hot for Shane MacGowan (I sh*t you not). I didn't really care about the Pogues at the time. All the skins and chelseas liked 'em. I was into Joy Division, but I digress. Years pass, and I warmed up to the Pogues' music. It was fun and all, but that's it, big deal.
And then I saw this documentary and I changed my mind. I was wrong. MacGowan comes out as a troubled but soulful artist. Incoherent to most, but not in his music. And the beauty of "Fairytale in New York" never hit me until I saw this. Enlightening for the uninitiated.
