Review of Idlewild (2006) by John-Bosco K — 09 Jun 2007
First of all I must adress Richard Roeper, who gave this movie a thumbs down: what were you thinking?
This film blew me away and I was plesantly surprised. Andrew 3000 and Big Boi are not the greatest, but do very well considering they had never acted before. They carried the movie with some great performances. The movie looks great with some even better dance numbers that will have you hitting the rewind button. I loved every aspect of this movie.
There were a few realism issue that came up now and again. For instance how could the character Trumpy keep getting away with his murderous and criminal ways? And also, this was the 1930-40s and did the characters not have to deal with all the discrimination of the times?. I guess "Church" was were they could get away from all their troubles and dance the night away and that was what the focus of the film was. This was a very overlooked movie in the box office, a classic non-the-less.
