Review of Idlewild (2006) by Jessicaann D — 04 Jul 2007
What a disappointing film. How could a brilliant music video director like Bryan Barber, teamed with the amazing men from OutKast make such a dull and unoriginal film?
To start off, the performances by Andre 3000 and Big Boi are uninspired. The direction works as a funny and eventually annoying sidenote that detracts from any kind of plot. Lastly, being a musical I was looking forward to a new crop of great OutKast tunes. However, for the most part all the songs in the movie came from 'Speakerboxx/The Love Below' and thus I already knew them all by heart.
To believe a love story we have to care about the characters, but this jumble of animation, songs and drama leaves us feeling empty.
I am disappointed.
