Review of Identity Thief (2013) by Tarah M — 19 May 2016
Melissa McCarthy is nuts! LOL She really is. I love watching her, the movie did remind me a bit of "Due Date" mixed with "Plains, Trains & Automobiles" with the 2 characters hating each other at first then actually growing to like each other.
The story is simple, Melissa McCarthy is a sociopath and a fraud and steals Jason Bateman's identity due to his "unisex name" Sandy. They end up going on a journey full of fighting, lies, stories and run into many problems along the way.
Good movie overall. I laughed a lot throughout the movie, obviously some parts that were meant to be funny didn't really have an impact, sure the plot itself is a bit loose at times but you don't go to a comedy for deep plots, just some laughs.
Overall if you enjoyed Melissa in Bridesmaids you will like her in this. I do think the fact that she is chubby and adorable adds to the laughs as she's falling down, getting hit by cars, dressing terrible, and slurping on slushies.
She really is the only chubby funny girl right now with star power besides Rebel Wilson who is hit or miss. Hollywood is mostly dominated by funny fat guys, Jonah Hill, Kevin James, Danny Devito, John Goodman, Seth Rogen, Cedric the Entertainer and Chris Farley and John Candy (who are both dead now).
Its nice to see a woman have to dumb fun too.
