Review of Identity (2012) by Adam L — 02 Aug 2010
We start the film with a familiar scenario: sleazy motel, stormy night, a group of mysterious strangers, and, you guessed it, no way of contacting the outside world. Occasionally we are shown scenes of a trial over a convicted murderer's sentence which at first seems extremely out of place and irrelevant: BUT as the story cleverly unfolds, the pieces of the puzzle come together and quickly everything begins to make sense.
In some ways this film could be seen as a parody: by choosing a stock horror setting and storyline they are making a connection that FILM ISN'T REALITY, making the twist close to the end, truly mind blowing.
John Cusack is great as usual, and the other cast members are great as well. If I had to point someone out for being weak, I'd say Scrub's John C. McGinley's (Dr Cox to some) casting as distraught husband might have been a wrong direction, but I'm open to seeing otherwise.
