Review of Ichi the Killer (2001) by Rachel T — 08 Jul 2008
Over-the-top violence, torture, and gore. Can I get a, "hell yeah"?? Lol. From start to finish this one packs a serious visual punch. The rooms in which murders had taken place were remarkably well done! *Drool* Ah, yes, I was delighted.
The special effects, however, left much to be desired. They were so unrealistic that it was quite laughable. I didn't so much mind, though, as I thoroughly enjoyed watching this one. I will admit that the plot was somewhat difficult to follow the first time around.
Perhaps some things are lost in translation. Still, I found the sadomasochist Kakihara quite charming. While he wasn't shy about dishing out pain, he could certainly take it as well. And Ichi was a most atypical killer.
If you're into the blood and guts stuff - don't miss this one!
