Review of Ichi the Killer (2001) by Robert B — 23 May 2015

What if Batman were not a brooding, gravely voiced ninja, but a violent young boy with a very twisted sense of justice? Then he would be this guy. Welcome to the odd world of asian slasher movies. I am having a hard time remembering the actual story, partly due to the subtitles.

However, the violence is memorable. People get cut in half, lots of necks and limbs get cut, resulting in the expected exaggerated geyser of blood. At one point, a woman actually has her nipples sliced off.

Yeah, this is a pretty messed up movie. Gore fans will enjoy it, but your average movie-goer might be turned off. I enjoyed the visual style of this movie even if the story was bizarre and twisted. I might have to go back and watch it again just to see what I missed.
