A modestly enjoyable, if somewhat forgettable and predictable, film. Though billed as something of a different take on or homage to the original Zatoichi films, it would be better described as a mashup of elements from generic chambara, Yojimbo, and both the new and old Zatoichi films in which the writers thought they were making a script for an anime and not a live-action film.
All in all, it wasn't bad, just blazingly mediocre, which is a shame.
