Review of Iceman (2017) by Rob S — 15 Apr 2009
An Arctic exploration team discovers a Neanderthal man frozen in the ice, and manages to revive him.
Strangely, when some of the team want to take the man back to civilization for further study and analysis, Dr. Shepard, who claims to be motivated by concern for the man's well-being, leads him off into the icescape, where he will almost certainly die, if not from starvation, then frozen once more. It seems a rather hypocritical choice, if you ask me.
Dr. Shepard has previously expressed a general disdain for the technological and social advancements of modern man. He does seem to have a habit of hanging out with local tribes and dressing in rough animal skins, yet underneath the skins he's wearing a modern anorak and sports ultra-modern spectacles. Maybe it's not so hard to "reject" modern society when you know that at any time you can return to a comfortable, heated environment and a feather bed. But this also seems hypocritical.
