Review of Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) by Jack L — 03 Jan 2013
Ice Age: Continental Drift (such a freak of a drift).
Play Lotto South or Mega Million and your odds of striking gold are one in a zillion. But if you win the odds of doubling or tripling that money, even after investing in zilch, are spot on. How? Just become a producer, some how, for the Ice Age series and money will keep flowing in all the time. You'll never understand how, why and what but it just happens.
Compared to it's fellow franchises like Toy Story, Cars, Shrek etc. Ice Age is a drag down of a whimper but it still roars in the form of coughing up as much cash as it's compatriots.
Plot:
Well there is a daddy elephant (Manny) who is over protective about his baby elephant (Peaches) as she's going head over heels for a ruffian elephant (Ethan). One fine day a catapulting continental drift separates dad from his family and the colony.
What did papa elephant do? What are the consequences he went through? How did he make it back to his family? Is it a happy ending? Just waste your precious time and go watch it on the big screen (if you still want to).
Analysis:
A look at the plot makes you scoff and wonder at the same time. Do we need an animation to tell this sort of story? It's a tear jerking soap opera of a plot that's more to do with family drama than continental drift. Animation in this case is just a cover up facade for this garbage in - pungent garbage out ride. It would've been more appropriate if the film was called 'Ice Age: Family Reunion". There is nothing more to analyze the film except for ranting about it. Movies like this make me want to turn in to an "Advocate of Piracy" (just a dying feeling which can never turn in to reality).
Now to the positives of the film - nicely crafted graphics, summer release time (kids will lap it up as they don't bother about story and related aspects) and a so called big time animated franchise (in the eyes of the world). But the biggest positive is it's minting money like anything ala it's previous installments.
Can't write more - Ciao for now!
