Review of Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) by Bohdan M — 20 Feb 2013
This film is bad, not only is it bad, but it's a certain kind of bad; it's so bad that it ends up being hilarious how bad it is. The few moments where you will laugh is at some of the one-liners delivered by Grandma Sloth and when Scrat appears. The only comic relief you will otherwise receive is through the awful deliverance of the story. I'm still sitting here thinking that the main antagonist was pointless; I really have no clue, as to why they decided that pirates were a good idea.
I really do feel like all the unnecessary references to things they do not own was out of place and really didn't have any relevance to any things (examples: Pirates of the Caribbean, Braveheart amongst around 5-7 other popular films). If anything, the references felt out of place and they as such added nothing to the film besides another cheesy gimmick. And while talking about gimmicks, I have to address the slow-motion. It can be briefly explained as (once again) unnecessary. The places where they use it would make sense if this was an action film, but it isn't, and as such they should leave that kind of stuff leave be.
All in all I have to admit I'm glad I rented it from the library for instead of actually buying it, because this film was the worst of the series, and frankly Blue Sky should embarrassed, as well should Fox.
