Review of Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) by Maksim B — 31 Oct 2016

A shameful attempt to exploit the fan-base of one of the most successful animated franchises, Ice Age: Collision Course is a dismal fifth instalment which should be avoided even by kids. Unfunny, unoriginal and without any emotional connection or family-friendly message, Collision Course is a completely unnecessary delivery and hopefully the last one from otherwise a beloved franchise.

The story brings then audience to Many, Sid and Diego's world some years after their last adventure. This time Many's daughter Peaches is about to get married and the mammoth (Ray Romano) has to learn how to cope with the fact that she is not a kid anymore. Amidst all the "family men" talk between Many, Sid and Diego, the let-go issues of Many and his marriage issues it happens that one more time they need to save Earth. Embarking on a new adventure the friends need not only to save the world, but also to find ways to fix their family issues.

Sadly, Collision course suffers from what most of the similar instalments do. It is not original anymore. What was previously funny and entertaining is nowadays evoking feelings of "been there-seen that". To make things worse, directing duo Mike Thurmeier & Galen Chu have nothing to offer in terms of content to the five-quel. The story is completely absurd, the plot and the reasoning behind will sound totally improbable even to younger kids and generally there is nothing to capture the attention for all the 100 minutes except for the well-known characters of Sid & Diego. Buck (Simon Pegg) is probably the funniest part of the whole movie, but he is far from being enough to make the cartoon watchable.

To put an end of this painful review (because even thinking of this cartoon hurts), it should only be said that watching Collision Course is an awful waste of time and money (if rent it). Spare your time or if you are wondering whether to let your kids seeing it, find something better for them.
