Review of Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) by Movie M — 19 Jan 2017
It is pretty evident that with every new Ice Age movie, the franchise is just getting more and more dried out, and eventually 20th Century Fox is going to have to realize that it's not worth pushing these movies out anymore.
I was really hoping that "Ice Age: Collision Course" was going to be the possible bounce back movie for Ice Age, as I found the first two movies to be one of my favourites in the franchise, the first one being one of my favourite movies as a kid.
However, while this 5th instalment wasn't necessarily bad, it wasn't one that will reestablish Ice Age as an overall good franchise. It had a very mediocre plot, one that will do the job in getting both kids and adults decently interested in what's going on, and the pacing was pretty decent well also, a good mixture of plot-driven scenes, and comedy-driven scenes, neither dragging too long.
The same characters are back, adding some from the 4th movie (which most of us forgot existed anyway), creating a sense of familiarity that kept me somewhat interested. The biggest problem with "Ice Age: Collision Course", though, is easily its unoriginality.
I felt like I was just watching reused Ice Age jokes, there was nothing that felt original, really taking away from the comedy in this movie, which was one of the main things it relied on, and also Scrat's scenes to me are getting less and less engaging with every movie.
In the end, "Ice Age: Collision Course" is a movie that I don't think anyone will be upset with, but it's definitely not one that people will look back on. This movie carries on the tradition of disappointing Ice Age movies, and is not worth watching.
