Review of Ice Age (2002) by Matthew H — 04 Mar 2014
Dreamworks is known, in my opinion, for playing franchises a little too hard. (Shrek, anybody?) Even if the original was good, or even decent, they tend to ruin series by making sequel, after sequel, after sequel. This is exactly how the Ice Age franchise worked out for me. I adored the first one, I went to see it when I was pretty young in theaters with a couple of my friends for her birthday, and I really enjoyed how fluent and well written the characters were. However, in the following movies, the authors played on those fundamental parts of their character too much rather than delving deeper, and that made it hard for me to rewatch this one.
Nonetheless, it has a lot of comedic appeal and is still a good movie for children to watch. It's something I'll leave on the TV if there's nothing else better on.
