Review of I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957) by Steve G — 05 Jun 2018
I thought they were at a '50s-themed Halloween costume party, until I remembered this was filmed in 1957.
Hadn't realized how much of a metaphor werewolf stories were for puberty. Starring a pre-pubescent, pre-Bonanza Michael Landon. Convincingly volatile. Nega-Highway to Heaven. Classic Saturday Matinee B-movie.
The assistant who didn't want the scientist to fill Michael Landon full of werewolf drugs thought the assistant was standing in the way of progress. Believable. Guy Williams stood out.
The narrative isn't the most well-sussed out. But it is what it is. Not sure about the drug angle. Why does a bell change him into the wolf? Not explained well. Regressing personalities to their primitive instincts should make them act like wolves, and not actually to turn into the. That part strays from werewolf lore too much. He needs to be bitten by one. On a full moon. No silver bullets. Dont screw with the formula. Demerit. Reminds me of The Blob. Would've preferred more resolution with family and friends. No Teen Wolf, though.
