Review of I Want to Live! (1958) by Matt M — 12 Apr 2013
Inspired by a true story, this film stars a wonderful Susan Hayword in Academy Award winning form as a real life occasional prostitute, con artist and perjurer who is wrongly accused on murder and sentenced to death.
It's an intense noir with a tension and suspenseful ending, as well as a good representation of its times punctuated by the jazzy soundtrack. The dig at an important issue like the death penalty is great and very thought provoking.
But it's length, which comes close to two hours, is certainly its weakness.
