Review of I Want to Live! (1958) by Diana S — 09 Mar 2008
Barbara Graham played by Susan Hayward had it coming to her...she was an infamous prostitute with a macho masculine attitude, known for petty crimes and living the good life hustling, hanging out with the wrong set of people.
she gets a wide awkening when she finds out that she is accused of murder. Who can she trust from now on? despite all this Hayward plays a very convincing character. a stern stubborn woman who will stand up and fight for everything she's got even her child.
I was suprised she was given the privilege of getting her teeth checked being able to having a sundae with a nurse and able to listen to music while imprisoned. It's also very ironic that a convicted person(male or female) can be made instantly famous and im glad the direct Robert Wise shows this because--to me, it shows that deep down the lack of values.
.even criminals can become famous. The final scenes didn't really grasp me, maybe it worked very well in Richard Brooks's Cold Blood but in this film was a lil tamed yet convincing...
