Review of I Walked with a Zombie (1943) by Augusto A — 05 Mar 2010
Too much time is spent explaining voodoo and towards the end there are one too many scenes that present situations that could lead to dangerous conclusions in a very suspenseful manner only to never reach a satisfying payoff. All of these scenes seem to just resolve the situations presented in the most uninteresting, boring ways, one after the other. That makes the entire third act quite anticlimactic and a little irritating. The slowly unfolding story is very interesting, though. The imagery and overall atmosphere are incredible. That walk through the sugar cane plantation... Wow. Outstanding camerawork and editing.
PS.: That friggin' song the dude with the guitar keeps singing has been stuck in my head for days now.
