Review of I Vitelloni (1953) by Jennifer P — 22 Jun 2007
My favorite movie. An early masterpiece from Federico Fellini and an essential example of Italian neorealism. As deeply resonant today as it was fifty years ago, 'I Vitelloni' is a funny, poignant, and achingly beautiful meditation on the aimlessness of youth and the pain of "growing up.
" Also sited as a primary influence on Martin Scorsese's 'Mean Streets', George Lucas's 'American Graffiti' and Barry Levinson's 'Diner.' A must-see for any Fellini fan and for anyone who can relate to the experience of lingering through their own post-adolescent "limbo" before reaching true adulthood--(which, of course, means everybody).
