Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Rebecca31 — 21 Feb 2018
Margot Robbie is Tonya Harding and as entertaining as this movie is Margot Robbie and Allison Janney are worth the ticket price alone. .
Done in the style of a documentary I, Tonya tells the life of American figure skater, Tonya Harding. Spanning from childhood, to her record breaking triple axel and of course the scandalous incident just before the 1994 Winter Olympics. Margot Robbie will knock your socks off with this performance. She is absolutely perfect for this part. Another stand out performance is Allison Janney as Tonya's hardass mother, Oscar worthy for sure. Both Robbie and Janney have a wonderful onscreen presence and every scene between them is electric. I don't believe I, Tonya would be half as popular if it wasn't for Robbie and Janney, simply brilliant. Although it definitely goes for the sympathetic angle, the script is blunt, witty and one of the best examples of narration done well in a film. Perhaps a lot of you already know what happened to Tonya Harding and her future in the sport but I didn't so not only did I find this film interesting but it's very entertaining. Trailers often misrepresent biography movies like this, but I, Tonya will not disappoint, the comedy gives it that extra edge and most of you are sure to enjoy it. The story is a bit choppy but the casting and the acting from everyone is perfect. Highly recommended, if you're looking for an entertaining movie this weekend then I, Tonya should be your choice.
