Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Steviegjd — 08 Jan 2018
I was surprised about how much I enjoyed this film. It was very funny and I laughed a bunch. Margot Robbie completely surprised me. While I have had no doubt about how attractive she is, I never expected this kind of fully realized performance from her.
She is really great. Alison Janney, as her mother, gives a one note performance, but it is an hilarious note. This story about a bunch of low class idiots is more than a little mean spirited about its targets.
But when you see the real people the actors were playing at the end, after laughing the whole way there, you realize that there are people this dumb. The greatest irony is that I now feel sorry for Tonya Harding.
