Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Alex M — 30 Dec 2017
See this film for its performances (Robbie and Janney are fierce and electrifying here) and the stunning skating sequences. I, Tonya is at its best when it focuses on Harding and her love for the rink.
The drama surrounding her isn't quite as mesmerizing as her performance here, though. Flawed as she is, Tonya is very much a product of her surrounding circumstances, and you can't help but root for her, even knowing that her future in the rink is short-lived.
It's a tragic film about relevancy, love, and abuse -- a twisted story of broken families and people. It's also entertaining as hell.
