Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Mariec C — 19 Sep 2018
I was pleasantly surprised by this biopic - from the incredible acting, to the cheeky presentation, to the brilliant and believable self-portrait Tonya paints of herself as the girl who wasn't feminine enough, rich enough, or cultured enough to be accepted by the skating association for her incredible skating ability and athleticism.
From Harding's point of view, I suppose it would be too ironic if Margot Robbie had gotten an award for playing her; since the real Tonya never got the recognition she deserved, that was probably just.
I remember this story as it unfolded in the news: Harding was vilified long before Nancy was injured. For all the violence Tonya endured in her life, I take some comfort in knowing she was never truly beaten.
