Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Dave R — 06 Feb 2018
Being one who watched the drama between Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan unfold, I was anxious to watch just how a film would portray the characters involved. In watching documentaries since, it has always seemed to me that those who were a part of this ridiculous fiasco were not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
After watching the film I, Tonya, those feelings I had have been confirmed. Harding has always come off as a victim in this scenario and after watching the film it is hard not to feel this way. She certainly is portrayed this way in the film, and why not with all the abuse she suffered throughout her life.
However, lost in all of this is the fact that many times in her life she could've taken a different path as well. I, Tonya is full of great performances, especially from the two leading ladies. However, don't forget about the two supporting male leads, as they are excellent as well.
You will laugh a lot in this film, but you almost feel guilty doing so, because of just how pathetic this story really is. In the end, I, Tonya is a good look down memory lane at a story that could only end up a movie.
