Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Jake R — 01 Mar 2018
I, TONYA treads weary waters in its portrayal of one of the most controversial & misunderstood icons in U.S. athletic history, but delivers an audacious triumph. Margot Robbie is magnificent as its center, and a brilliant performance by Allison Janney as Tonya's inconceivably vicious mother is one of the best performances of the year.
The film is carefully balanced with equal parts comedy & tragedy, wonderfully directed by Craig Gillespie, & resonating in its subject matter. A finely crafted biography with an important approach to seismic consequences.
