Review of I, Tonya (2017) by Ricardo D — 03 Jun 2018
An incredibly creative misadventure into the life of Tonya Harding. Gillepsie uses a range of different and original cinematographic and editing techniques to tell the wildly controversial and contradictory story of Tonya Harding, who is quite possibly the greatest living figure skater today.
This film follows Tonya from a 4 year old child up through the legendary "incident" which would change the course of Olympic figure skating history. It is a tale of parental abuse, domestic abuse, poverty, conspicuous consumption, mental illness; and a superb and exciting illustration of how a small bad decision can unleash a chain of events that no one in Olympic history had imagined before, including Tonya Harding herself.
