Review of I Think I Love My Wife (2007) by Matt H — 07 Nov 2009
The film rings with abundant truth found in "The 7th Year of Marriage" (i.e. The 7 Year Itch); marriage gets pretty monastic, mundane, dull indeed and something comes along to "shake the trees and make the apples fall out" and/or to "trim the rose to make the flower prettier.".
A person whom Chris Rock knew before he was married COMES BACK and tests his marriage: little by little the girl draws Chris further and further away from his life and into THE WILDERNESS of single-life.
The girl is not mature and not ready for marriage herself and brings Chris into her world where Chris does not belong. Chris belongs home with his family and the girl takes him out of his home and safety of his family into places a safely married man does not belong. And in THE WILDERNESS Chris runs into people who clearly indicate he's in THE WRONG PLACE with a girl WHO IS NOT HIS WIFE.
Ultimately, the film is a parabolic nightmare of the TROUBLE that befalls married-couples generally in their 7th Year (there's clinical proof to substantiate a "7 year Itch).
Thank God for forgiveness and understanding; the medium of film is a great teacher and storyteller.
People who don't like this movie, probably can't relate to it and that's why they don't like it. Good films are very personal experiences and generally not loved or appreciated by wide audiences.
