Review of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) by Patrick D — 17 Oct 2009
Riding on the coattails of the first one's success, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer takes our surviving cast (Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.) and puts them with new annoying people (singer Brandy, Mekhi Phifer, and Matthew Settle) in a hilariously bad (unintentional, I'm sure) sequel that is rated R for intense terror violence and gore somehow, but offers up very little of both.
Hewitt (even worse in this film as far as acting abilities go. She even does the yell out at the world with arms up bit again!!), her roommate Brandy, Brandy's boyfriend Phifer (who I didn't mind too much) and new potential boyfriend for Hewitt, Matthew Settle win a trip to a tropical paradise in the Bahamas.
If you're smart (especially with geography), you'll figure out immediately that it is a setup, but since this entire group is stupid, they head to the island that's actually going through its rainy season, thus only a small skeleton crew stays with them, not to mention a pissed off killer back for vengeance since he couldn't kill two moronic kids last time.
Yes, Muse Watson is back killing again, or is he? The story tries to fool you prior to the twists, but it certainly didn't fool me. The reason why this film gets equal marks as its original is because of the AMAZING supporting cast this film has, including Bill Cobbs, Jeffrey Combs, Jennifer Esposito, John Hawkes, and dear old Jack Black.
Those five actors completely make this film much more enjoyable than it should be and I would have much rather seen the film revolve around them then the rest of the annoying, sexy, young cast. Not too terribly bad, but it's certainly not a high point in the horror genre.
