Review of I Spy (2002) by Jack Y — 18 Jan 2008
The races are reversed for this big-screen version of the CosbyCulp TV series, but it doesnt work. Some spectacle, but woefully short on story. Both leads deserved better: Wilson would go on to You, Me and Dupree, which means zero improvement for his pre-suicide-attempt career. At least Murphy can voice a donkey for Shrek. What were McDowell and Janssen doing here? They have often been successful in avoiding junk.
Essentially, an insult to the original series and even the Budapest location doesnt save it. Only high point: seeing the late Sheldon Leonards name in the credits. Low point: knowing that the late Sheldon Leonards name got attached to this.
