Review of I Spy (2002) by Steven Y — 01 Apr 2009
This movie pretty much has nothing to do with the original 60's series. After watching what Hollywood has done with the Avengers and the Wild, Wild West this is most likely a blessing on the part of the classic TV show.
Anyway this movie pretty much is the typical standard buddy cop movie mixed in with the standard spy movie. Eddie Murphy hams it up as a very annoying boxing champion recruited to help Owen Wilson find a invisible jet.
(Shades of wonder woman anyone?) So of course mayhem follows right after them. Owen Wilson is very enjoyable as the clumsy spy just trying to get his job done. His performance gives the movie sort of a charming feeling that saves it from being a jumbled farce.
Overall this movie won't win any Oscars, but it's a nice film for a Saturday afternoon at the movies.
