Review of I Spit on Your Grave (2010) by Sean S — 07 Jul 2011
This is what I like to call, 'Poetry In Motion.' The grueling, disgusting first half of the movie are perturbing to many degrees but redemption is but a few cunning moves and torture situations later.
The viewer and protagonist, alike, feel better about themselves at the end. The vengeful retribution was fresh and inspired, obviously, by the likes of: SAW and Hostel. This brings me to my final two points: what I loved and hated about this 70s remake.
I loved the poetic justice and irony linking her brutal rape to the same-style punishment dealt back to her rapists. For example, a rapist that admitted to our heroine that he liked "the back door," seemingly got "the back door" treatment three-fold.
That aspect was impressive as hell. The abhorrent aspect was how gullible and dumb a writer is to tell a group of guys where she will be staying and showing that no one is accompanying her. A writer reads a lot and should have more common sense than to endanger one's self.
That part was disappointing; to have her awaken and not be as naive as she was at the beginning of the story once she lost her innocence and a part of her soul. Definitely check this movie out though -- it's worth a gander.
Not for the weak stomach though.
