Review of I Spit on Your Grave (2010) by David L — 01 Jul 2013

This is a very brutal but clever concept which is purely about a girls revenge for the hillbillies that savagely tormented and raped her for no other reason than for fun (oh and to try and help their retarded friended lose his virginity).

It's a very drawn out and detailed introduction with each aggressor inflicting pain and humiliation upon the victim in a way which they will soon be forced to remember when she seizes her opportunity for revenge.

She recreates each vengeful scene using the same lines, and setting that she had to be subjected to, and by making it ten times worse for them, we get to witness many a bloody and squeamish scene which will undoubtedly have all blokes crossing their legs in nervous anticipation.

It's very much a girl power film with all the female characters surviving, and all the male cast being butchered off in gruesome ways, but the severity of the punishments will not exactly appeal to too many of the girly audience I wouldn't have thought.

It comes across as relatively low budget, but fine tuned in all the right places meaning I was never bored despite its gradual plot, and the build up to the climax didn't disappoint with some gratifying conclusions and original scenes that I haven't seen before in modern day horrors.

Despite the more cheapened appearance to what I was expecting, the film exceeded expectations overall and has subsequently made me want to see the 1978 original take that I hadn't realised this movie was adapted from.
