Review of I Spit on Your Grave (2010) by Jo T — 31 Oct 2013
This is like the ultimate revenge movie, payback is a bitch! Sarah Butler delivers a spectacular performance as Jennifer Hills, a writer who retreats to a quiet cabin to have peace whilst writing her new book, but she attracts the attention of 3 savage lowlives and the town's corrupt sheriff.
A night of rape, torment and a near death experience is what Jennifer goes through. The material is extremely violent and graphic, me and my mate both agreed to skip through the rape scenes as it's just unnecessary.
We both knew what they were doing was terrible, so we wanted to get to the revenge scenes. Before I mention them, the build-up is remarkable, a tense twisting ride of slow camera pans and close ups will make you feel on edge, as you don't know what the Jennifer is going to turn around to, the atmosphere is filled with tension.
Now here come the good bits, this is pure payback. Sarah Butler's performance gets even more exciting as she turns dark and starts her vengeance. Using an arsenal of sharp objects she straps up her tormenters, and puts them through unspeakable pain, hear every tooth crack, flesh rip, blood splatter and every whimper of agony from the savages.
Let's just put it this way, whenever she put them through pain I leaped out my chair and shouted "Yes come on! Get 'em back!". I Spit On Your Grave features top notch performances, a brilliant build-up and total revenge! The rape scenes are a bit much, they should be implied, you don't want to see it.
Definitely worth the watch, this is a test for how strong your stomach really is.
