Review of I Served the King of England (2007) by Billie & Bonita (B/B) ? — 08 Mar 2009
I saw this in NYC opening weekend. It's a very funny, upbeat tale about a man who makes it his goal to become a millionaire. His determination and positive attitude makes for a hilarious and insightful journey, and this is really one of the best films of 2008.
Unfortunately the film is not nearly as funny in the second half or final third, but it is still very well done. The film shows how Czech was affected by the Germans via World War 2. The overall film is great, excellent, but there is something really magical about the first half.
Overall this is the best foreign language film I've seen so far all year along with "Tell No One.".
