Review of I Saw the Light (2016) by Colton S — 01 Apr 2016
Another fine example of the critics being wrong simply because a film did not adhere to accepted and expected genre formula. This is not a typical biopic. This work neither lionizes, nor condemns. Portrait of the artist as he was.
The good, the bad, the joy and pain. Public triumph and personal hell. True "I Saw The Light" does not reveal what made Hank Williams great. Why, because no one, not even Hank new. I don't think he was an entertainer because he wanted to be, so much as he was meant to be,.
...that he was compelled to be. Whatever drove his talent, burned him up. The whole cast was good, but Tom Hiddleston was both riveting and heartbreaking. For a biography on Hank, seek out a documentary.
This is a look into the heart of the maelstrom.
