Review of I Saw the Light (2016) by Carolyn E — 09 Apr 2016
This is an intimate look at the personal life of Hank Williams during the last 6-7 years of his life with some beautiful singing performances speckled throughout. Based on some other reviews, I thought I was going to come away from this film unsatisfied, but instead I was very touched by the excellent performances and resonating texture of this film.
Watching the film gave me an enlightened and endearing experience of Hank Williams as a man rather than the legend. What he was like away from the spot light and the maddening crowds. All the acting was solid, and Tom Hiddleston's performance is outstanding.
He is mesmerizing on the screen and easily pulls you into Hank's world. The film also boasts an excellent soundtrack of Hank's music sung and performed by Hiddleston in addition to its beautiful cinematography and detailed period settings.
Make no mistake the performances and quality level of I Saw The Light is superb and makes for an overall enjoyable film experience.
