Review of I Saw the Devil (2010) by Kate H — 29 Jun 2011
A tried and true concept but one that just never seems to end. A man goes to seek revenge on his fiancee's killer. Makes total sense and it's entertaining to a point but then it just drags on and on and on. I have to allow here that the monsterous tendencies that our dear Soo-hyn are to catch the killer, torture him, and let him go over and over again but it gets into nonsensical territory more than horrific.
It is very well acted, especially Choi Min-sik as the killer. He is terrifying and unsettling in all the right ways. Also creepy is the actor playing his brother, another murderer who likes to eat his victims later. The scenes they have together are probably the most unsettling.
On a side note this film also possesses the most stylistic stabbing sequence ever. It's fantastic. One awesome scene doesn't make up for the rest of the movie. It really is just way too long.
